Micron Technology Inc. Announces Industry Samples of 128 Meg and 144 Meg RDRAMs and RIMM Modules
Micron builds its leading position as a supplier of multiple DRAM solutions for various applications
BOISE, Idaho--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 30, 1999-- Micron Technology, Inc. (NYSE:MU - news), today announced industry sampling of 356MHz and 400MHz 128 Meg and 144 Meg RDRAM® (Rambus® DRAM) components, providing 712MHz and 800MHz data rates. The company is also sampling 64MB, 96MB and 128MB Rambus in-line memory modules (RIMMs-TM).

Micron's RDRAMs are manufactured on its leading-edge 0.18um process technology, enabling the company to produce a higher percentage of parts supporting 800MHz speed grades. ''Micron's successful development of high-performance RDRAM devices on 0.18um process technology confirms our leading position in the highly competitive DRAM industry,'' said Jeff Mailloux, Micron DRAM Marketing Director. ''By focusing RDRAM development on 0.18um process technology, we will deliver very fast, very competitive memory products for the introduction of Rambus-based systems this fall.''

Micron is dedicated to offering customers multiple DRAM solutions supporting various applications and maintaining long-term support of the solutions customers need, including EDO DRAM, PC100 SDRAM, PC133 SDRAM, DDR SDRAM, and DRDRAM. ''With the proliferation of divergent DRAM technologies in the marketplace, it is paramount that suppliers of component solutions match device capabilities with the needs of the customer,'' added Mailloux. ''We will continue to expand our family of DRAMs, providing customers with a multitude of choices from a single source.''

Micron RIMMs are assembled using Micron's own fine-pitch ball grid array (FBGA) packaging. ''We have developed our own packaging technology to insure we provide a consistently high-quality product,'' said Mailloux. ''We are one of the few manufacturers who has developed and uses our own technology from start to finish in providing this complex product.''

Samples of 8 Meg x 16 (MT6V8M16F) and 8 Meg x 18 (MT6V8M18F) RDRAM components are available now with sample pricing of $45 apiece in 1,000 lot quantities. Samples of RIMM modules are also available in the following configurations: 32 Meg x 16 (MT4VR3216AG), 32 Meg x 18 (MT4VR3218AG), 48 Meg x 16 (MT6VR4816AG), 48 Meg x 18 (MT6VR4818AG), 64 Meg x 16 (MT8VR6416AG) and the 64 Meg x 18 (MT8VR6418AG). MH,

You are right about the word "admit", it makes you think Grove was "lying or hiding the truth" previously and now he "admits" the truth.

Yea, typical Register BS. Since the Intel roadmap has always shown that it'll take time for Rambus to penetrate all PC levels, you could easily change "admits" to "reiterates" or "reconfirms" and you get an entirely different feeling from the headline without changing the facts.

Intel's Grove reconfirms Rambus will take time

It's all in the spin.
