RE: Thumbnail Review of Wave Systems
In Brief: Wave Systems has patents and technology (10 yrs. in making) to secure e-commerce and "meter" all microtransactions on the web or intranets for companies/houses. They will accomplish this with what they term the EMBASSY System (EMBedded Application Security SYstem). The EMBASSY system is a hardware and software based PLATFORM. It can be placed in PCs, handhelds, Set-top-boxes (STBs), PalmPilots, cell phones, modems, etc. The fact that it is a platform allows other software security systems to run within (or compatable) to it. This makes it a perfect system to run in all things digital, making proprietary software talk with other companies' software security. EMBASSY is the 'base', if you will, for all security. They have one other thing, however, that NO ONE has. that is the ability to "policy and collect" cash for all transactions made. This is the meter.
A summary of what Wave Systems Corp. (www.wave.com) is involved in:
Security - VPNs, Printing, video, email, business to business transactions, firewalls, etc. Ecommerce - rental/purchase of movies, data, art, porn, gambling, books, magazines, articles, etc. Broadcasting - Movies, datastreams, news, etc. Home VPNs - Home teleconferencing, communication, home automation, voice recognition, etc. music SDMI specs shout Embassy METER No explanation necessary (I think)
How is Wave going to do this? With partners to get the chips out!
box makers - HP, Compaq, IBM, SUN, NEC, PCFree home networks - Actiontec (modems) hardware - Haup (videoboards), SMSC, ITE security - Alladin (dongle, HASP), RSA, Verisign chips - Atmel, N*ABle E-Community/content sevice - TheGlobe, GlobalWave, WaveDirect, MyPublish charity - MyDonate, CharityWave ISP - ITG, AOL? Who is Wave aligned with for the EMBASSY System for Trusted PCs?
Here are some partners from the HP site (link below):
Wave Systems: Content metering, transaction manager, and OS Hewlett-Packard: VerSecure encryption management Sun Microsystems: Java Card application framework and APIs RSA: Encryption algorithm and protocol libraries SMSC: Trusted client tech. embedded in Super I/O, peripheral and systems chip-sets. VeriSign: Digital certificates Aladdin Knowledge Systems: Software execution protection ITE: Trusted client hardware on chips for PC motherboards
Each one of these companies is developing a separate PART of the WHOLE. These companies are WORKING TOGETHER TO MAKE THIS REAL! These companies want to succeed and WILL succeed. Wave is a part of it. Wave has THE METER and the OS for it to happen. This is why Wave, a small little campany in MA, has been chosen. Only Wave has the technology to meter payments.
Wave is also a founding member of the International Security, Trust, and Privacy Alliance (ISTPA):
Formed recently, founding members include:
AMD, Bank of America, The Chase Manhattan Bank, Compaq Computer, CygnaCom Solutions, Cylink, IBM Corporation, Hewlett Packard, Intel, Motorola, Microsoft, NCR Corp., KPMG, Racal, TrustE and Wave Systems.
Wave Systems Corp. is in very good company.
What's the conclusion? Straight from HP's website:
"Conclusion:
Trusted client systems are the missing link of today?s e-commerce and transactional security solutions. By focusing the transaction on the desktop, trusted clients like the EMBASSY E-Commerce System add intrinsic value to the PC, which can now assume an important role in the digital economy.
The EMBASSY E-Commerce System will allow vendors to take advantage of a powerful new differentiation for mobile, commercial, and consumer PC platforms. Consumers will benefit from added security and privacy of the trusted-client systems. Moreover, with metering capabilities built in to the EMBASSY E-Commerce System, end users and software developers can take advantage of new types of purchasing models for virtually any form of digital content.
As an enabling technology, trusted clients will be adopted on an increasingly larger scale. VerSecure technology will facilitate a single solution, which is exportable worldwide, creating a global installed base for the delivery of secured services and metering of digital content. Building on the strengths of today?s best security and e-commerce products, trusted clients will push trust and security beyond the firewall."
