Not a bad chip. 200MHz clock at 400Mpel/s sounds about right for end of the yr release. This might run faster than the .25um tnt-2, probably about the same as the .22um tnt-2(+/ultra?). The T&L means that on slower machines (all PIIs), it will probably beat a tnt-2.

Announcing at this date and claiming ship date of xmas is like saying the chip works and is productionable TODAY.

Caveat is that graphics chip makers tend to claim clock speeds that they have trouble delivering. It would be interesting to see if the 200MHz part does become real. Of course, anything that runs too much below the 180-190MHz speeds that the V3-3500 and tnt2-ultra would be pretty boring.

I guess S3 really doesn't want to be overtaken by nvidia. :) Maybe SIII is a graphics chip company after all, not the CMGI of fabs.

Next salvo from NVDA - NV10. Next salvo from ATY - ????. Matrox - ????. This is so exciting and cutthroat, it's like watching soap opera : "Chips of our lives", or "One Chip to live". :)

Why not just jump the logical endgame where everyone just announce 1GHz 16pel/clk parts? :)
