Yes, leave the kids behind if they don't like a little "roughing it".

The hiking was great in Nova Scotia. Lots of different types of terrain offering varying degrees of difficulty from easy walking, to leaping through jumbled rocks like a mountain goat...which happens to be my idea of hiking BTW.

I spent about an hour sitting up on a rocky eyrie painting a little watercolor of the black basalt rocks on Brier Island as the tide was going out. The seaweed swirled continuously with the lapping of the receding waters. I did the painting, not out of any real desire to produce something, but because drawing or painting requires a different way of seeing... more contemplative and holistic...
