How about the argument that it's simply not profitable. It costs a lot of money and manpower to support the NT64 platform. Based on sales/profitability of Alpha NT, it is not justified in cost.

If cpq is truly afraid of Intel as your posting stated, it would not be in the AMD business.

Intel plays hardball, but I doubt that CPQ would be much influenced - they are Intel's biggest customer, but they are also AMD's biggest customer. CPQ has told Intel to pound salt before. This looks like a straight-ahead business decision to me - unload a money-losing product line.

That's cold comfort for those Alpha NT customers though - we'll have to see how the customers react to the programs CPQ proposes.
