Max, Brave call. I agree that it is very difficult to call a market top, because if the bulls are dumb enough to take it to 50% overpriced, what is to prevent them from taking it to 200% overpriced? Certainly not their intelligence. Yes, those who call the exact top are just lucky. Somebody calls a top in a bull market and a bottom in a bear market every day, so somebody has to get lucky. Just like somebody wins the Powerball.

However, I disagree with Greenspan's idea that nobody can tell they are in a bubble while they are happening. There are certain signs, the most notable those that point to much greater credit expansion than savings can support, that are obvious to anyone who cares to look during a bubble.
