He is a cousin of Rajiv Gandhi and was also a close confidant during the 1984-1989 "Rajiv era". His presence in the BJP is a clear sign that all parties are equally power-hungry. It is only the BJP that makes it appear as if the only thing they have in mind is the welfare of the public.

You can expect to hear more about Arun Nehru in the coming months. He could well be the Trojan Horse this time around.

Bofors: Is it dead and incinerated completely. Are the newspapers interested in Bofors still?

Well, it is one of those "off" and "on" things. A lot is said, but nothing of substance really happens.

I think that India's # 1 problem is not corruption. India's # 1 problem is : wastage and inefficiency. You have to visit some of their numerous public sector outfits to really understand this.

The solution is to simply privatize all these units and sell them to the highest bidder, local or foreign. However, don't expect the BJP government to do anything more than dragging its feet over this. A lot of the employees of these public sector units belong to the cushy and comfortable middle-class (thanks to the periodic wage increases that they keep on getting), and a lot of them are supporters of the saffron-langots. And the saffron-langots are not likely to displease one of their largest vote-banks! That's for sure.
