With the exception of LA Councilman Yaroslavsky, there was a surprising lack of jewish leaders involved in all this gun control hoopla that came in the wake of the Jewish community center incident. I applaud their restraint on the gun issues. I agree the media should have their feet held to the fire regarding their reporting priorities and style. The random violence in south central L.A. deserves the humanistic coverage that other groups receive. Media, through this kind of bias and subtle deference encourage the community to be at odds with each other and with their local institutions (POLICE) which creates even more "media" events i.e. protests and riots. Again, as has been pointed out, not through deliberate intentions but basic ignorance (prejudice).
