$0.00

The sold the encoder to the outfit that does the encoding work. They got some tiny revenue from that.
They get no per disc revenue or per encoding revenue as far as I know.

CNBC- POWER LUNCH
INTERVIEW WITH HAUPPAUGE DIGITAL CHAIRMAN AND CEO KEN PLOTKIN
AUGUST 27, 1999

SUMMARY: Plotkin says Hauppauge Digital is working on deals with other companies. Plotkin says Hauppauge Digital enables consumers to view television through their PCs.

Martha: A TV window in every PC? That's what Happauge Digitial hopes to see one day. The company makes digital video products that allow PC users to watch TV on their computer screens. And it looks like investors are tuning into their what their company is all about. Today, shares are up significantly, up 30% on the session, up 6 3/4 at 28 7/8. We've received a lot of viewer e-mail about this company. So, by request here to tell us what's going on is Ken Plotkin, Chairman and CEO of Hauppauge Digital. Thanks very much for being with us today.

Thanks for having me.

Martha: Very strong activity in the stock today, what do you think is happening there?

We really can't comment on day-to-day fluctuation situations in either the share price or the volume.

Martha: There has been speculation from time to time you may do a deal with an Internet company or a broadcast company. Anything in the market that may be sparking those kinds of thoughts in investor's minds?

We are moving the product line from analog to digital TV and that in the United States is broadcast at 19.4 million bits per seconds. That compares to a cable modem that broadcasts at five million bits per second. This new type of data transmission sparked the interest among broadcasters and Internet content providers. So, they're using this kind of data of bandwidth because it is perceived to be the biggest pipe into the American home.

Martha: Is the deal along those line, perhaps some kind of strategic partnership along those lines might be something you want to do. Is it indeed something you have been talking to people about?

We talked to a number of broadcasters, content providers. We don't have any specific deals we're ready to announce, but we do, in fact, talk to a lot of different companies.

Martha: Great quarter that you just had.

Thank you.

Martha: Let's talk about the sales growth. One of the areas, I understand, was European sales. Are you seeing more global interest in your product?

The European sales run about 60% of our total sales. But what is interesting, Asia and Europe are growing at about the same rate. So, we're seeing strong interest, both in the United States, Europe and Asia.

Martha: Let's talk about the company. Tell me a little bit about your new products and how you are getting in the more consumer oriented market. You are very active in the business market.

The product is primarily used by consumers. We find as people spend more and more time on the PCs, they like the entertainment valuable of having TV on the window screen. What you do on our products is watch television in a resizable window on the PC screen. You can drag the window, make it smaller or bigger. As people spend time on the PC, they don't want to miss their favorite shows. If you are a sports enthusiast, you want to watch ESPN. If you are a music enthusiast, you may want to watch MTV. What's critically important is the ability to have your entertainment on the same computer that you spend hours with. We did a study about a year ago that found as people spent more time surfing the Net, they wanted to have the TV in a window on the PC screen because they didn't want to miss their favorite TV shows.

Martha: Do you foresee a time, we've talk about this for years now, the PC replaces the television set in the home?

We are squarely in the middle of the convergence between the television and the PC. Our devices are critically important as PC manufacturers would like to move the computers into the living room. If you want to provide a living room personal computer, you need to be able to provide television reception, need to be able to surf channels, record TV shows to the hard disk, play them back. These are all features our TV cards bring to PCs.

Martha: Thank you for joining us today.

Thank you.

Martha: Ken CEO of Hauppauge Digital. Looking at the one-year chart, up 5 3/4 at 27 7/8. There we go. It has had a very nice run over the course of the last 12 months and has leveled off, but peaked up a little bit in August as well. And here's a look at how the rivals are faring today. 3Dfx that we had on earlier this week down half a point at 10 15/16.
