johnd, I agree that you should not fight the fed. However, what happens if by chance the world economy starts slowing going into y2k. The fed would be focussed on the long term implications and would cut rates.
I think they had been cutting not because of inflation fears --but instead they wanted some more room for interest rate cuts if necessary down the road.
The fed won't let the ecomony or market collapse. Even if it starts sharp downturns, they would come in and cut rates. Just my feeling.
