Tellabs Collaborates With Tekelec to Deliver New Call Control, Signaling and Service Control Capabilities on AN2100(R) Gateway Exchange System (TM)
Capabilities Enable Service Providers to Deploy New Services Over Circuit, Cell and Packet-Based Networks
LISLE, Ill., Aug. 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Tellabs (Nasdaq: TLAB - news) announced today that it will deliver new call control, signaling and service control capabilities on its AN2100 Gateway Exchange (GX) next-generation switching system. These capabilities will enable service providers to reduce costs and create revenue-generating services over a mixture of time-division multiplexed (TDM), asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) and IP-based networks.

Tellabs has signed agreements with Tekelec (Nasdaq: TKLC - news) for elements of this call control and signaling solution. Tekelec's Network Switching Division will supply elements of an SS7/IP signaling front-end to Tellabs' AN2100 GX (TM) system, which will provide gateway screening, SS7 link concentration and access to local number portability. Tekelec's IEX Division also will supply elements of the AN2100 system's new call control and service control point software that will enable providers to deploy debit, credit and calling card services. The AN2100 next-generation switching system helps service providers consolidate circuit-switched and variable bit rate data services over a single, broadband network.

Portions of Tekelec's DaVinci VoX (TM) Gateway Controller and DaVinci Service Control Point (TM) will be offered within the AN2100 GX system to enable carriers to deploy carrier-grade voice services, from traditional tandem switching to enhanced intelligent voice and data network services, over a mixture of TDM, ATM, and IP-based networks. With the enhancements announced today, Tellabs' scalable AN2100 GX system will support media adaptation, call processing, SS7 signaling, and service creation functions.

``We're pleased to work with Tekelec to develop best-in-class voice and data services for carriers,' said Brian J. Jackman, president of Global Systems and Technology at Tellabs. ``We've created a true next-generation switching platform that meets carrier standards for reliability and scalability. Incorporating the service control point software gives Tellabs a jump start on providing enhanced services for the new voice-over-packet environment.'

Michael Margolis, Tekelec's president and chief executive officer, said, ``In helping develop this solution from Tellabs, we're enabling carriers to capitalize on service delivery and transmission cost savings in packet-based networks, strengthen their competitiveness, and pave the way for revenue-generating intelligent network services, such as 800 calling, local number portability, calling name delivery, and prepaid services.'
