Thanks for the link on the Sony 64mb flash memory. Harari has stated in a conference call a few months ago that the Sony product, while physically different from CF, uses CF patents and therefore, is an additional source of royalty payments. Sony is obviously sure that it can mass market enough of the devices to create a new standard. However, the use of an adaptor that fits into the floppy disk input of a computer would be slower than most people would find acceptable, except for occasional use. Eventually, if Sony keeps on pushing its Memory Stick, we'll probably see readers like the SanDisk Imagemate, with slots for CF, SmartMedia, and Memory Stick. I wouldn't be surprised if some laptop models were equipped with CF slots, since, particularly in press photography, there is a need to transmit the image in the CF to a home base via modem. The Sony flash memory won't make me lose any sleep in regard to SanDisk.
