Dan, come on.....

The fact that the man uses computers does nothing to validate him as an expert on any part of their processing. I love to drive fast cars. I would much rather drive a Jaguar than a Honda Civic. I can push that jag to its limits and drive it for days at a time! However, I don't think I will give an interview to car and driver magazine in which I express an opinion on which manifold design the jag should use. Same analogy works here. I am sure the good doctor uses his computer really well. But using it, even understanding how it works, does not qualify him as an expert on future memory architectures. Oh, and let's not forget the regrettable reference to SLDRAM, a dead, (or at least very dormant) technology in that article. Kinds of ruins the validity of the whole story for me.

His qualification... as an astrophysicist, he actually uses computers, stretches them to their utmost capabilities, and he lives and breathes the concepts of unbiased measurement and observation. I could go on, but this is enough - your statement was unfair, insulting to the man, simply absurd.

dan,
it is certainly not my intent to insult anyone.(usually).
i do not doubt the man's genius.

you missed my point...we all have our specialties, but nobody is specialized in everything.i.e.

i have air conditioning. i stretch it to its limits everyday. i do not know which is the best compressor for my system.
i have a car. drive the heck out of it everyday. i do not know which is the best material to make the pistons out of.

my point re that article is this...
the brilliant professor, the writer, and you (by bringing this "news" here), were suggesting that sldram is a suitable replacement for rambus.
that is not true.
if you believe it is, you live in a world of 3.
if you know it is not true...why did you post it without pointing out the flaw?
