How many people do you know who own an actual Uzi? I know zero.
As for keeping guns locked up ... well and good. But at least one gun should be kept handy. The whole point of a handgun is to provide a ready defense - that means immediate access, ideally a carry situation. I am furious at California that they disdain a citizen's right to carry. Since I care about the law, I don't. But I would like to be accorded the privilege of holding a permit.

They just passed a law that makes it a felony if a kid carries a gun to school. The trouble is they hold the parent liable. Idiots. They are less concerned with safety ...that is just the pretext. They wanna disarm us; it's that simple. Assault weapons my ass - an assault weapon by definition has a selective fire provision. Name me ONE military organization that'll issue semi-auto rifles and carbines to its troops.

but frankly, we have some problems in gun land.

Yes, you do. And for many years despite being basically libertarian in principle I favored strict gun regulations, not seeing a need for citizens to be armed in the 1970s as they needed to be in the 1770s.

But then I look at some of the things the federal government is doing, and at the latest Waco revelations, and I start worrying about a heavily armed government and an unarmed citizenry. This is NOT the FBI I learned about in school. Having Delta Force troops at a domestic civilian arrest site is scary. I am not normally a conspiracist theorist, but the federal armed forces are not as benign as I used to believe they were.

I think it's important to realize that the people who make up our police and military were brought up with the same attitude toward violence as the rest of us.

Edit: I have never owned a gun and have never lived in a home which had a gun in it. But I am contemplating changing that.
