the transmission line characteristics A Rambus interface has to be designed for a certain number of RIMMs. There is also an upper limit to the number of devices on a RIMM. Each RIMM socket has to be filled to keep the characteristics within tolerance so Rambus machines have blank or dummy RIMM cards placed in unused sockets. When you add more Rambus to a system you take out a dummy card and replace it with the Rambus card thereby keeping the characteristics the same. TP
