NEW YORK, Aug 31 (Reuters) - Banc of America on Tuesday said analyst Tom Courtney has raised his rating on online bookstore Fatbrain.com <FATB.O> to strong buy from buy.

Raise based on "increased confidence in the company's top line growth, its return on capital and its long-term economic model."

"This increased confidence is due in part to its launch of E*Matter, a new and separate channel of distribution that enables digital publishing."

Maintained target price of $25.

E-Matter, which Fatbrain introduced on Tuesday, allows book and magazine publishers, as well as individuals, to sell digitized documents online. The technology allows a customer to buy documents and directly download them onto a computer.

Shares of Fatbrain were up 34 percent, or $5-1/4, at $20-1/4 in Tuesday morning Nasdaq trading. <<
