There is a mandate that federally regulated industries (banking and brokerage fall into this category) and federal entities (civil and military) have to lock down their systems so that they have a stable platform going into January 1, 2000. Lockdown means, no new equipment or software can be installed until after the lockdown is lifted. My understanding is that the mandated lockdown will be over on March 1, 2000 (to get us past February 29, 2000).

I would point out that I am not someone that believes that the Y2K bug will bring about TEOTWAWKI (the end of the world as we know it). I believe that we may have some minor inconveniences, but most of the doom and gloom is overstated IMO.
