Monkey see, Monkey do. Sure, cultural memes [I think that's the word] can be propagated. They have been and continue to be.

JohnG, Still it is good to remember that we stand only 1 generation away from the worst barbarities and it is only the rule of law and a free press that saves us from the same fate.

Hopefully, adherence to and respect for rule of law and free press are "communicable" cultural traits.

Is there any BAD news out there anywhere for Qualcomm or should we just expect a continuing and increasingly rapid success story? Ericy getting cdmaOne orders in Brazil for WLL. Telstra now operating cdmaOne networks. NZ going cdmaOne. Poor OneTel in Australia with their GSM network only just being built in time to be obsolete - they obviously didn't realize that Tero was kidding all these years about how good GSM is compared with cdmaOne.

Bill Clinton and Jiang Zemin are going to have meetings here 10 days from now. You can expect a big cdmaOne excitement at the end of that. Jiang will get his WTO stuff, some assurances on Taiwan being nice and not rude, some compensation for the embassy. Bill C will get access to China's market. Actually, I was wrong on their meeting place. The APEC meeting will be at the War Memorial Museum and the Zemin/Clinton meeting will be at the old Government House at Mount Eden.

This is so much fun! Farmers will be herding sheep in the streets [I hope]. Maoris will be chanting and challenging. I'll be ranting from the rooftop [and keeping out of the traffic jams as monster cavalcades of Zils and Limos swoop around town]. The weather should be great and Mighty Q! will zoom over the $200 mark. So much for 200/2/2000. Not to worry, the Dow drop by 21 September to 8400 or whatever it was should sober people up.
