OT ... Folks, as a former journalist I am quite familiar with the many weaknesses of media. My profession has performed abominably time and time again. There are also times when individuals within the Fourth Estate rise above themselves and perform true service to the country. I am tired of people using the word "liberal" to label things they don't like. I doubt if any two of us could even agree on what a liberal is. In my view, having worked for a number of publishers over the years, most of whom were dyed in the wool Republicans, the "liberal media" is a myth although a convenient whipping boy for the far right and raving paranoids. The fact is that the Left doesn't think much of the press either. But what system is better? As Thomas Jefferson said: "Were it left to me to chose between government without newspapers and newspapers without government I would unhesitatingly choose the latter." -- Cheers, bargain
