"Puerto Rico Telephone Company Calls in CNT's Enterprise/Access; Web-Enabling Legacy Applications Maintains Y2K Compliance While Streamlining Operations
MINNEAPOLIS, Sept. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Computer Network Technology (CNT©) (Nasdaq: CMNT - news) today announced that the Puerto Rico Telephone Company (PRTC) has selected CNT's Enterprise/Access software to drive its enterprise application integration (EAI) initiative. Enterprise/Access integrates legacy environments with new Web-based applications in a completely non-invasive way. This allows PRTC to streamline operations without affecting its Y2K-compliant legacy systems. The new contract, which includes professional services and continuing development, is valued at US $892,000. As a result of a successful CNT implementation earlier in 1999, the total PRTC contract value is US $1.2 million.

PRTC is Puerto Rico's largest provider of telecommunications services to both the business and consumer markets, including local exchange, long-distance, wireless and Internet access services. Following GTE's purchase of a controlling stake in PRTC in March, president Jon Slater introduced an EAI initiative to rapidly improve and re-engineer its applications and business processes. Implementing Enterprise/Access will provide real-time access to legacy applications, streamlining operations, increasing employee productivity, and reducing order time, to enable better customer service at PRTC. A deciding factor in selecting CNT's Enterprise/Access was its non-invasive approach, which requires no changes to existing legacy environments.

``We worked with PRTC on their project to improve their business processes,' said Tommy Daughetee, group manager, GTE International. ``Knowing that PRTC required a solution which would not affect its already Y2K-compliant systems, we agreed that CNT's Enterprise/Access was a viable solution. From past experience with Enterprise/Access, we've found it to be a non-invasive, flexible, and highly scalable tool for legacy extension.'

``Companies today are looking for competitive advantages from the integration of cutting-edge enterprise applications with legacy applications,' said Martin Hahn, vice president and general manager of CNT's Enterprise Integration Solutions Division. ``PRTC wanted to serve its customers better by providing employees with real-time access to information, enabling a quicker and more complete response. Enterprise/Access allows PRTC to achieve their goals in the fastest time possible with no adverse affect on their legacy assets.'

About Enterprise/Access

Enterprise/Access is an Enterprise Application Integration (EAI) server that links legacy enterprise application with new CRM, E-commerce, and ERP applications. Enterprise/Access is designed to minimize the typical time, cost and risk associated with integration projects. It is a practical, non-invasive, scalable solution for achieving legacy goals. Because Enterprise/Access requires no changes to existing systems and little or no programming investment, it can be deployed rapidly and scaled to thousands of users, enabling real-time access to legacy data quickly and easily.
