Pennsylvania to deploy OpenSky network
September 3, 1999

LOWELL, Mass.—M/A-Com Inc. and AMP Inc. entered into a $95 million
contract under which M/A-Com's OpenSky Wireless Internet Protocol
network will be deployed for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania's
statewide public safety digital radio communications system.

The network infrastructure will be comprised of several hundred base
stations, as well as regional control centers and network control centers, all
tying statewide agencies and others to a single network.

OpenSky's IP backbone carries all voice messages in a compressed and
encrypted format, providing five times the voice capacity of a typical
circuit-switched network, said M/A-Com.

OpenSky technology is targeted for public safety, transportation, utilities and
private mobile fleet management, said Dennis Martinez, director of wireless
systems, M/A-Com. Pennsylvania's system is slated to be completed in
2001.
