Tencusatsu, <That's why there's so much attention focused on Merced. We hear about tapeout, silicon coming soon, silicon arriving, silicon functional, and now samples being shipped. Of course this kind of exposure is abnormal. But Intel has to build up the enthusiasm, which means the entire Merced project is going to be highly visible to the public.> I agree and if you go back to my earlier posts today, I am sure I said it is a good marketing move. Nonetheless, that does not change the reasons for the move - threat from Athlon on the server side! And, it doesn't change the status of Merced - early silicon.
