PB and Intel Investors - More Merced Information At the Intel Developers Forum, Intel demonstrated a functional Merced system, apparently running a Windows 2000 BETA and performing a typical workstation function doing some visual rendering operations. Also, there was a MERCED system set up as an INTRANET server (I'm not sure - this could have been running 64 Bit LINUX) which was sourcing files to a standard Client PC (most likely this was NOT an Athlon system !). The ability to run applications AND SERVER FUNCTIONS on Merced First Silicon is simply AMAZING. Getting nearly 50 million transistors to work - the FIRST TIME - is sensational. And let us not forget - FUNCTIONAL MOTHERBOARDS with MERCED 460GX CHIP SETS - also were available for the Merced First SIlicon ! Paul
