Turp got his name when he was just a kitten and fell into a bowl of the stuff while my father was painting the porch. We had to put him in the bathtub and wash him with tomato juice and then with milk. Or maybe it was the other way round. It was really smelly and his hair was all stiff.
He wasn't even a very pretty cat to start with.
