This is the first I heard of America Securities. But, their fellow did have positive things to say about BRCM ;)

RESEARCH ALERT - Whittington starts semi stocks

NEW YORK, Sept 1 (Reuters) - Semiconductor research analyst Richard Whittington of America Securities initiated coverage on Wednesday of nine semiconductor companies with mostly bullish ratings.

-- The analyst initiated coverage of seven computer and communications chip makers with strong buy ratings and started two other chip makers with buy recommendations.

-- Galileo Technology Ltd. GALT , Conexant Systems Inc. CNXT , Applied Micro Circuits Corp. AMCC , Broadcom Corp. BRCM , PMC-Sierra Inc. PMCS Vitesse Semiconductor Corp. VTSS and Semtech Corp. SMTC all rated strong buys.

-- Lattice Semiconductor Corp. LSCC and TranSwitch Corp. TXCC were rated buys.

-- The analyst was not immediately available to comment.

-- In late morning trading, Galileo was off $1-1/4 at $50-7/8.

-- Conexant jumped $2-3/16 at $74-1/16. Applied Micro gained $1-15/16 to $94-3/16. Broadcom added another $1-5/16 to $130-1/16. PMC-Sierra climbed $2-1/16 to $95-1/16. Vitesse moved up $1-3/8 to $69-3/8 and Semtech rose $1-13/16 to $71-7/8. Lattice gained $1-5/16 to $62-15/16, while Transwitch rallied $2-15/16 to $52-5/8.
