A well armed society is a polite society. In theory, yes; it hasn't always worked out that way. What usually happens is that people bunch up, and the bunch with the biggest guns and the best training gets to tell everyone else what to do. Right now that's the government, and while I don't completely approve of the way the government does things, I'm not convinced that many of those who would gladly take the government's place would do much better. Some of them might be a whole lot worse.
