Telemetrix Inc. Announces Joint Venture with Tri-Corners Telecommunications, Inc. to Deploy The Telemetrix T3000 System in Colorado and New Mexico
DENVER, Aug. 31 /PRNewswire/ -- Telemetrix Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board: TLXT - news), has signed a Letter of Intent with Tri-Corners Telecommunications, Inc. (TCT) to form a Joint Venture Partnership that will market and deploy the Telemetrix T3000 System, Oz Pedde, President and Chief Executive Officer of Telemetrix Inc., announced today. The T3000 (formerly known as DATATRAK) provides Wireless Local Loop telephone service as well as time-of-day and day-of-week automatic utility meter reading. It is enabling technology that will facilitate the extension of telecommunications services to rural areas and the entry of electric utilities into the telecommunications market.
TCT is equally owned by La Plata Electric Association, Durango, Colorado and Empire Electric Association in Cortez, Colorado. TCT owns a number of Local Multipoint Distribution Service (LMDS) licenses to serve South Western Colorado and North Eastern New Mexico and is developing telecommunications services including local and long distance telephone, high speed Internet and data communications. La Plata and Empire together serve approximately 45,000 electric customers.
J. Kelly Bloomer, Chief Executive Officer of TCT, said, ``The T3000 will allow TCT to maximize its FCC LMDS licenses in Colorado and New Mexico. It is our intention to bring telecommunications services, including voice and high speed Internet/data transmission, to businesses and consumers in the Four Corner areas that are not being well served. The T3000 not only provides improved energy management, but enables electric utilities to quickly and cost-effectively compete in the telecommunications market.'
Michael Tracy, President of Telemetrix Technologies, the division of Telemetrix Inc. which developed the T3000 System, stated, ``By piggybacking on existing PCS and other wireless infrastructure, the T3000 enhances the capabilities of PCS and other wireless systems and provides PCS and other wireless operators and public utilities with new sources of revenue. At the same time, we can combine the T3000 with the TRACCS billing system developed by Telemetrix Solutions, providing a 'back office' facility that works hand-in-hand with the remote metering technology. This agreement with TCT is a major step toward the commercialization of the T3000 System,' he said.
The Definitive Agreement, outlining further terms of the Joint Venture Partnership, is expected to be signed by September 30, 1999.
Under the Joint Venture, TCT will supply the facilities required, including wireless and/or wireline facilities, for the transmission of voice and high speed Internet/data telecommunication services. In addition, TCT will provide targeted customer introductions initially in the areas served by TCT, La Plata and Empire in Colorado and New Mexico, and then potentially expanding to a broader market area throughout Colorado and adjacent states.
Telemetrix Inc. will provide products and services from two of its divisions, Telemetrix Technologies Inc. and Telemetrix Solutions Ltd. This includes the licensing of T3000 System intellectual property and technology as well as the Telemetrix Revenue Awareness Customer Care System (TRACCS) billing and rating engine.
Telemetrix's new T3000 system offers a suite of services including Wireless Local Loop via existing PCS or digital cellular systems, wireless telemetry for automatic remote utility meter reading (with load-shedding capability), home security, home health, vending machine replenishment, as well as numerous other specialty applications for home and business.
The main components of the T3000 are the Comm Center, Optical Reader, Network Operations Center and Access Server Software. The patented (patents pending) system utilizes a multi-functional communications box, about the size of a computer modem, known as the Comm Center. The Comm Center is an inexpensive device that can be installed in any home or business. Once installed, it will provide Wireless Local Loop (WLL) which can be used either as a second line or to bypass the local service provided by the incumbent Local Exchange Carrier (LEC). Using the Short Message Service (SMS) protocol on a wireless data link, the Comm Center can collect data from multiple sources, such as gas, water and electric meters, store the data in memory and release the data upon request from an authorized polling point (e.g. utility). Using the Comm Center and the SMS digital data channel, the T3000 can provide a wide variety of services. These include, but are not limited to, remote meter reading, home health alarms, fire and burglar alarms, monitoring and control of appliances, household condition monitoring (temperature, flooding, power usage, power failure) and other monitoring or control applications. These services and applications represent a substantial revenue opportunity for PCS digital cellular communications and other wireless systems.
Telemetrix Inc., through its subsidiaries, provides customer management solutions and enabling technologies for a wide variety of communications markets. Subsidiary companies include Telemetrix Technologies Inc. (currently known as Tracy Corporation II d/b/a Western Total Communications)*, a licensed PCS service provider in the United States, and a developer of PCS-based telemetry and telecommunications technologies; Telemetrix Solutions Inc., a telecommunications billing and customer care solutions company; Telemetrix Software Factory Inc., a software production facility that utilizes Object Technology (OT) processes and applies assembly-line manufacturing techniques to produce software products on demand for telecommunications and other industries.
