Good points. I hope we've taken them to heart.

dan - <Coppermine is on .18 and the Athlon is on .25 - about to move to .18 - and soon after that to copper .18>

IMHO, there are strong indications that AMD's current ".25" front-end process is incorporating .18 features. This is fine in and of itself (although different from the way I'm used to doing it), but I wonder how much transistor delay reduction improvement they are realistically expecting when they go to their real .18 process. I guess is what I'm trying to say is they might be sliding into .18 on kind of a curve, and by doing it this way the line between .25 and .18 might be kind of fuzzy.

Even some AMDers on the thread have speculated about this.

You seem to see but then
"The Coppermine is a great chip, and that it runs in air at 800 is a terrific accomplishment, but the world will keep moving around it."
You really don't see

For this is just the point. It isn't so much the world moving around "it" as INTC moving around it. You can say or point to what you want, but the Acid test when it comes to financial/stock threads is return. Look at the INTC chart, look at the AMD chart. No bias, no if's and's or butts.

INTC moves under over around and through it. AMD on it's best days has a hard time making it out of the starting blocks much less moving around "it" or anything on a consistent basis. It's the whole package that counts and INTC has it in spades.

Dan43-40 - Re: "you might want to recall that the Coppermine is on .18 and the Athlon is on .25 - about to move to .18 - and soon after that to copper .18"

You might want to keep in mind that the AthLATE which operates at 1.6 volts ALREADY USES the AMD 0.18 micron transistors & Front End Processing !

The back end metallization is still at 0.25 micron - keeping the die size large.

As for copper - I think you are in for a BIG disappointment in the near future.
