One note about today's productivity numbers is the governments implementation ( in 1995)of hedonic pricing- meant to capture the the increased performance of computers at reduced prices accounts for 38% of the reported GDP growth in chained dollars between 1996-8 . For those who care to look see the Department of Commerce's Survey of Current Business. Richebacher covered this topic in the july and august issue 1217 St. Paul St Baltimore, MD 21202 . strip away the the impact of hedonic pricing and chained GDP growth and the result is GDP growth in current dollars and productivity is actually 40 -50 % less than reported. ho ho ho Mike
