He's telling you that because he understands the politics of the situation. Let's say there is the possibility that the Secretary won't be there, and the balance is tipped by his sense that there's more private business interest than government/public interest attached to this. He won't go. An unexpected illness or international concern will arise and an underling will appear in his place. Why not consider the proven wisdom and business acumen of the man to date and say to yourself that if Glenn thinks it's not a good idea to call the Secretary, maybe you shouldn't? I don't think he would generally care how your exercise your franchise otherwise.
