For me at least, the clock speed and performance per clock of the Athlon was a huge surprise, and a most pleasant one. But I agree that it wasn't a good surprise for AMD, it was a great one!

Coppermine making it to 700 or 800 in Q4, that's a good surprise (for Intel).
