12:33 ET QUALCOMM (QCOM) 174 5/8 -11 9/16 : --UPDATE-- Merrill Lynch commenting on sell-off after yesterday's strong run up; attributes the softness to Everen's comments regarding component issues in handset business and concern over gross margins. Says that after the June qtr, QCOM alluded to such factors and Merrill adjusted their model to reflect a more cautious assumption on unit shipments. Believes that solid subscriber growth, particularly in the US, Japan and Korea should lead to strong royalty payments and more than offset any perceived handset weakness. Maintains $0.88 per share estimate for the Sep.qtr and continues to recommend purchase.
