Wayne,

The easiest way to follow them real time is with the free Qcharts. Go to this site
quote.com
To enter most indices, put a $ sign in front ie $DOT will give you DOT, etc.

Aloha,
Kevin

Along with Kevins Quote .com site this is good also for daily watch..
quote.yahoo.com
Perhaps Quote is better for indexes as probably htey are real time I rarely use that for me I try to avoid looking at current levels, I would rather write not knowing if market is breaking or rallying this helps me a lot..So I am definitely a Yahoo user, even to the extent that SPU is rarely followed real time, it is on telephone or add premium to the SPX..albeit 20 minutes late.. I do options mostly and my play has room and I hate to get whipsawed so Yhoo helps me a lot.. always try to cut noise and try to rely as much less as possible on interday noise..look at the overall direction..bears or bulls the fall in place.
