No argument that medicine has come a long way, and I'm glad they saved your life! (Actually, thank the military, which has been the impetus for many medical advances.) But we weren't talking about that, but only about laws -- and whether the proliferation of laws suggests that our society is a worse society than it used to be.

And I could have died several years ago of "blood poisoning" without today's medicine, which is still rudimentary IMO.
