Days off? I don't think so. Observances during the middle ages were not reliable. After all many small towns didn't have churches- and people in less than small towns certainly didn't. And even into the 1700's and 1800's there were places where people lived in sin until a visiting preacher came by to marry them. If you lived in a town you probably got to church more often. But as for holy days- the church didn't want to miss out on it's tithes which were dependant on agriculture- so I am sure the Church in no way interfered with harvest. And most of the festivals I am familiar with that were big in the middle ages were pagan in nature.

Please tell me when any church defended individual liberty against monarchical interference. In most societies the church and the king are united against individuals (High Priest in Judea, Pharoah in Egypt, Emperor in China, etc.).
