we may be working longer hours

I was definitely talking about quantity / hours of work rather than difficulty. Clearly more physically demanding then. But the source I read many, many years ago indicated that with the requirement of Sundays off and the many holy days and fairs and other things, they actually worked fewer days of the year than modern industrial workers. Do you recall anything on this from your student days? You should, since they were only a few years ago! <g>

Hunter-gathers are said to spend few hours collecting food, and as they are nomadic, and have few possessions, they are said not to spend much time working. This is based on studies of people like the Kalihari Bushmen, the I-Kong, and the Indians of the South American rain forest.
