Question for the Thread:

GATEWAY - I acknowledge that GTW is a well run and profitable company. They are great at what they do and are a terrific investment, although I do not hold any.

Is DELL eating Gateway's lunch?

DELL has risen from #7 to #4 on the consumer front. GTW does not have the resiliency on the corporate front to make up for sales lost on the consumer front.

I realize that GTW buyers are a VERY loyal bunch, however, the same argument was made for Apple and look at their stock.

I think that after CPQ, GTW may be the next victim of the DELL train.

If anyone doubts this theory then please ponder the following quote from DELL's 2nd qtr report:

"We are now the largest direct company within the worldwide home and small-business market, and are significantly more profitable in that space than our nearest direct competitor," said Michael Dell, the company's chairman and chief executive officer. "Our U.S. consumer shipments grew more than 100 percent in the quarter, and about one-half of those sales were generated online, through www.dell.com."

All responses are welcomed.
