U.S. hedge fund batters Thai baht in new raid - paper

BANGKOK, Sept 2 (Reuters) - The U.S. based Tiger Fund, one of the world's biggest hedge funds, launched an attack on the Thai baht in the Hong Kong market on Wednesday, pushing the currency down sharply, the Nation newspaper said on Thursday.

The English-language daily quoted a dealer in Hong Kong as saying that the fund entered the market to sell the baht heavily in favour of the dollar following negative news about Thai financial institutions.

The amount of money spent in Wednesday's ``attack' on the current was unclear, it said.
