If you look at the individual Dow issues in the corresponding time periods in 1987 (like on these websites) you will see some horrible breakdowns in the charts by this point. Look at GE, JPM, CAT 1987 charts for example. The Dow issues' charts today just do not support such a correlation. Maybe in a couple of weeks, but not today.
