Hi CG,
I think netscape
has a very positive spin
in terms of european and asian name recognition,,,
and being 'first' in the mind...

Compaq bought DEC about two years ago. The merger-pain was built into the stock then, not a year and a half later. Compaq's problem half a year ago was not due to the DEC's merger. In my opinion though, I think the Compaq and Intel divided up DEC was good for both companies.

As far as AOL acquiring Netscape, I still cannot make much sense out of it. (Don't get me wrong. I am still long on AOL.) Netscape was only a browser company. If Microsoft was giving away Internet Explorer for free, why not use Internet Explorer. Why buy Netscape? Sorry, I am sure this subject was discussed long ago, but I was very confident on AOL then and not paying too much attention to that subject. You know when you are blindly following a leader, that would always come back to haunt you.
