The Beatles played in New Orleans, their first tour through the U.S., when was that, 1965? I was 13, Lydia was 12. It was a stadium out by the lakefront, can't remember the name now, but it was sorta deteriorated, I think whoever booked them there made a big mistake. I heard not one word, just sorta faint music in the background, and a bazillion teenage girls screaming. My mother, who was only 30, and regretting that she did not experience her own teen years, commanded Lydia to faint so that we could be taken to the medical tent, in front of the stage, but Lydia wouldn't do it. She didn't try it on me, I guess she thought I wouldn't cooperate. I wouldn't have, being a straight arrow back then. It was very hot and humid, of course, but if you say "New Orleans," then hot and humid are part of the story immediately. Not all that exciting of a story, but I was there, and I still have my ticket stub.
