Interliant Opens Vienna, VA. Data Center; New Facility Strategically Located Near Major East Coast Internet Hub
PURCHASE, N.Y., Sept. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- In a move to offer customers greater flexibility in application outsourcing, Interliant, Inc. (Nasdaq: INIT), a leading Application Service Provider (ASP) and Web hosting company, today announced its expansion into Tyson's Corner, Vienna, Va., a suburb of Washington, D.C. Interliant has opened a world-class data center within a mile of MAE-East, the major East Coast data hub to the Internet, to ensure Interliant customers get the most scalable Internet connectivity and reliable network services available. "As a pioneer in the ASP market and one of the few companies that actually has a track record in hosting applications on the Internet, Interliant has a unique understanding of the network solutions and services customers expect from their ASP," said Marty Gruhn, vice president of Internet Business Solutions at Summit Strategies, a Boston-based market strategy and consulting firm. "Establishing a data center so close to a vital Internet hub reinforces the company's commitment to addressing customers' needs as well as continuing to innovate core business offerings." "Tyson's Corner, Vienna, Va. is a major nexus for Internet traffic," said Jim Lidestri, president of Interliant. "As we rapidly expand our facilities, it only made sense that we establish a stronghold in this market. Our expansion here is critical to giving our customers continued superior service." Interliant began serving customers from this facility earlier this month. Originally an America Online data center, Interliant leased the facility in February and substantially upgraded the co-generation plant as well as physical infrastructure. Among other key services, the Data Center provides a highly secure environment, round-the-clock hosting and redundant power supply to ensure stable, reliable operation of applications. "When I joined Interliant with the acquisition of part of IBM's infrastructure in April 1998, we began planning this facility," said David Link, director, Interliant's Enterprise Solutions Group. "The opening of the new Data Center marks a significant expansion for Interliant and gives us the technology and Internet connectivity edge required to offer superior application and mission-critical Web hosting." About the Center Interliant continues to raise the bar in applications and Web hosting services by offering superior performance as well as maximum security and reliability. The new 22,270-square-foot facility features the latest in state of the art equipment and design: -- MGE Uninterruptible Power Systems (UPS): Separate, isolated, redundant UPS systems supply power to the Data Center. In the event that one system fails, the other system is available to carry the load. In the case of an electrical outage, on-site co-generation plants would sustain Data Center operations for approximately 72 hours. To ensure that the quality of power received by the servers and other Data Center equipment is at a uniform voltage, free of spikes or other anomalies, multiple power conditioners and voltage stabilizers are available within the facility. -- Multi-Carrier Internet Connectivity: Multiple carriers provide fiber access to six alternate points of entry. This unique configuration eliminates the risk that a fiber cut within the vicinity of the building could compromise Internet connectivity. -- Environmental Monitoring and Conditioning: Temperature and humidity control systems insure an optimal operating environment for all equipment. The gaseous FM200 fire suppression system insures state of the art fire protection that doesn't damage equipment, as water does, during a discharge. In addition, Interliant's staff supervises daily inspections and weekly load tests of equipment to guarantee uninterrupted service and superior performance. -- Physical Security: End-to-end physical security systems, including three layers of card readers for access to the server rooms, and cameras watching over server and infrastructure which are actively monitored 24x7, provide a safe environment for hosting and co-location services. The facility is staffed 24x7 with trained, certified engineers with years of experience in Internet application hosting. The facility physically separates the managed hosting from the co- location environments so that dedicated and virtual hosting customers occupy an area accessible only by authorized Interliant employees. The Data Center is located at 8619 Westwood Center Drive, Vienna, Va., 22182. About Interliant, Inc.
