Wouldn't a fast Merced give MSFT a big advantage over sun if Win 2000 turns out to be scalable and stable. As careful and meticulous as MSFT is being about the release date, it would seem that Sun is going to be caught in a commodity war since the hardware platform advantage will be neutralized adn MSFT has a richer application selection to choose from as well as a wider user base. The only possible advantage that I see is that thier OS and application servers are more robust than MSFT's Win 2000. Whether that is the case or not, if the performance is even somewhere in the ball park, then Sun will get hurt since MSFT will definitely come in with commodity pricing, practically giving away the entire package. Look how far and fast they went with NT4, and 2000 is a BIG improvement (I have tested it), along with parity on the hardware front in terms of the Merced...
