Sudan's first overseas oil sale garners 2.2 million dollars

KHARTOUM, Sept 2 (AFP) - The Sudanese government earned 2.2 million
dollars from its first overseas sale of oil, the official Al Anbaa daily
reported Thursday.

The sum represented 40 percent of the earnings on the sale of 600,000
barrels of crude to the Shell oil company in a shipment that left the
specially built Beshair harbour on the Red Sea on Monday.

The shipment, the first made possible since the building of a
billion-dollar pipeline from Sudan's Higleig oilfields in the southwest
to Beshair, took off amid great fanfare.

A consortium of Chinese, Canadian, Malaysian and Sudanese companies earn
the rest

Energy and Mining Minister Awad Ahmed al-Jaz has announced that shipments
are planned to South Korea and to Chile.
