Tenshusatsu,

<Chuck, why not apply the same harsh standards of judgement to AMD and Athlon as you do with Intel and Merced?>

I try to stay even on my comments on AMD and Intel. I have praised when it was due (Whitney, process for Intel and K7 core for AMD) and been critical when it is due (k6-3, RDRAM follies, Merced come to mind). And, I have had critical comments on Jerry and Barrett on different issues.

However, at this point in time it makes little sense for me to lump Merced and Athlon in the same bucket. Athlon was a well executed, nearly on-time core that is in production (albeit not in high volumes) and Merced is behind by over 2 years and has quite a way to go.

<proclamations of AMD already securing the high end for years to come.>

I don't think I ever said that AMD is "securing the high end for years to come". I think AMD opportunity is finite - 12-18 months. Then the game starts all over again.

Chuck
