SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) -- President Clinton and his wife signed a contract Thursday to buy a $1.7 million house in a New York City suburb, White House spokesman Joe Lockhart said.

The five-bedroom house, which the Clintons toured Saturday, will give Hillary Rodham Clinton the New York residency she needs if she decides to run for the U.S. Senate.

Lockhart said the Clintons will borrow $1.3 million from Bankers Trust Co. The loan will be guaranteed in part by Terry McAuliffe, the president's friend and one of his chief fund-raisers.

You don't think McAuliffe will be looking for any special treatment from Bubba or the future Senator, do you? JLA
