Here I am going to have to disagree with you, X. You seem to be implying that we live in a totally solipsistic universe. ...but I do not believe we can even have true agreement given the nature of the imprecision of our language and the complexity and chimeric nature of our thoughts. Despite the "complexity" and "chimeric nature" nature of our thoughts -- I am with you there, I think some kind of rough agreement can be reached on a number of things, including on a definition of what is and what is not fair play. I think we can agree thst using the ad hominem approach, for example, is not "fair play." However fuzzy our concepts, we can still tell when somebody is addressing the argument or trying to get out of it by attacking the person making it. And so forth.
