Re:"purchasing few months early due to Y2K validation issues?"

In a word, no.

I am involved with Y2K efforts at my company. Virtually all vadidation was done LAST year. There was a tiny spillover into this year. All the efforts this year have been on developing continuity/contingency plans should something wacky happen, though with all the testing that has taken place I doubt it, at least in our shop. We have done all the testing on our own, then had a major consulting firm come in and recheck our tests and audit our plans and documentation. I suspect we are typical of large (multi billion $) organizations. So I don't think there is any Y2K freeze on purchases coming. Don't see even a hint of it.
