Samsung to help CBS go digital
koreaherald.co.kr

In an effort to expand its presence in the U.S. market, Samsung Electronics
agreed with CBS to help the TV network broadcast programs digitally, Samsung
spokesman said.

The leading Korean household electronics manufacturer will provide financial
and technical support for CBS's project to digitalize its movie programs, currently
aired in analogue in prime time Tuesday and Wednesday.

CBS will begin to air the programs with HD (high definition) signal starting in the
autumn. A subtitle, highlighting Samsung's cooperation, will be put on the programs.

"The joint project will help boost recognition of Samsung TVs in the U.S.
market," Choi Yun-jung, a Samsung official said.

The company, which entered the U.S. digital TV market last October, plans to
make use of the video of the programs to promote its products. Samsung is now
marketing six models of HDTVs in the United States.
