Mike - I am not technologically sophisicated but I will take a stab at answering your question. I understand IBMs new switches are programmable like Excel's. They may not be a replacement for other switches which are application specific.

Can anybody else help us?

Ken

MikeM,

<Do any Last Mile investors happen to know why PMC Sierra (sym: PMCS) didn't get a major haircut in the last two days? Two of the most powerful companies in the world, first Intel and now IBM, step right into the space that PMC Sierra occupies and the stock price hardly blinks. >

IBM and Intel are powerful alright but their knowledge of the comms space is underwhelming. Just look at Intel's recent acquisition of Level One - If you have followed the industry then it is evident that they clearly did not know what they were getting into.

As long PMCS is concerned, the product focus areas for PMCS are quite different from what IBM/ITNC are talking about. Can't see either of them effecting PMCS in a material way in the near future.

Chuck

P.S.: I do think IBM will make a great foundry in the comms space because of Si-Ge. And, ATML is another player who could benefit for the same reason.

P. P.S.: Noticed your comments on DY. Wanted to add to my position in the low 30s but got cold feet - psychologically, it is tough to ignore the rumors of bad accounting practices unless one knows the management very well. I did not know enough about DY's management to pick it up at bargain basement prices and the fact that they didn't split some of the insurance related amount did not help either. I am, however, thinking of writing some puts once I feel a little more comfortable (within next few days, I hope)
